Ready...steady...here we go!

I put off starting this blog because I couldn't think of a witty title. But I'm 95% happy with the current title, so here I go.

With the new year and a new age (twenty-five, that's a quarter of a century), I've decided to do away with resolutions and instead add goals to my list of things I want to do before I leave this life. I know of some pretty brilliant people out there that are already doing this, so I am just following their brilliance.

Here is what I've added:

1) Figure out the Rubik's cube (which I did! Algorithms.)
2) Spend NYE in a different country every year from here on out (or at least until I settle and start a family)
3) Become a gallery artist
4) Run a marathon (Going to need mucho motivation for this)

Okay, unemployment and time well spent
First, important, and only rule when unemployed: Enjoy the free things!

Anchorsteam Brewery tour
Free beer on a Tuesday--you can't go wrong. Anchor's seven unique beers, including its world-famous Anchor Steam, are all made in Anchor's handcrafted copper brewhouse in the lovely San Francisco district of Potrero Hill.

Public Library
I'm going to have to admit this. I asked my roommate, who goes to the public library often, "How does the Public Library work? Do I have to pay a membership fee to rent books?"
And yes I really did ask that. Now once you've stopped laughing, let me explain this: If I ever read as a kid (which by the way as a kid I didn't like to read, and as an adult I like to read news articles, humanitarian pieces, and biographies), I just rented the books from my school library...I did this all the way from kindergarten through college. Who needs to go to a public library when you can just rent the book with the swipe of your school ID? I mean the gym isn't free after college, so I figured why would the library be free too. I mean technically speaking my tax dollars went to the library so it's really not free, right?
Parks and nature hikes
I've always been someone who enjoys mother nature and SF is the spot to be. Fresh, clean air on a sunny day. You can't really beat that when you're not in the office.
Yoga
It was supposed to be free. It wasn't. But still enjoyable.

Story/book project
I started writing a story when I was traveling through SE Asia but it never really took off until I got back to the states and realized I had so much time on my hands with being unemployed. So in between writing cover letters, revising resumes, and going to interviews, I occupied my time with writing.

The story is a light-hearted glimpse into foreign travel, all its ups and downs, and the people you meet that will change your life—maybe just for the time being, but maybe, just maybe forever.

Synopsis:
Growing restless with the path of life set before him, Auggie Saphan packs up and leaves the only world he knows behind in search of something more exciting. He isn't sure what he has gotten himself when he lands in Southeast Asia for the summer, but he knows it is bound to be a trip of a lifetime.

Although he meets numerous backpackers through this experience, there is one backpacker that seems to elude him. Kate is a mysterious backpacker that leaves books behind at hostels with only her name, the book’s original location, her current location, and her next destination. At first Auggie, uses her books as guidance for his next stops, but soon finds himself enthralled with the possibility of finding her. And so an adventure of a lifetime turns into a chase of a lifetime filled with personal travel anecdotes of beautiful Southeast Asia.

I'm really excited about this particular project because it accomplishes two goals.
1) Kills time.
2) Allows me to relive my travels and share my travel anecdotes that I never, never, never spoke about on the blog. I call it the "True Stories". Not to say that what I wrote on the blog didn't happen. They did. It is just that the story will go through the day-to-day activities, thoughts, and emotions that I had--something I felt the blogspot missed.

It's not trying to mimic The Beach or Brokedown Palace. Its my hope that it stands alone.

Miniture door project
My new neighborhood in SF is known as the Presidio Heights and I just love the doors on the beautfiul mansion houses over here. They are all very unique in size and color. So my love and infatuation for those doors has turned into my "miniture door project."

"If ever you should find that a door to an opportunity has closed, you'll always have this one to open."

Door #1: Not finished, needs another layer of paint on it.
The photos below are simply gratuitous:

Top: Unfinished tree on canvas. I kind of like it unfinished, but maybe one day I'll finish it.
Bottom: Unfinished Johnny Depp(from Benny & June) in charcoal. Noticing a theme?
